Kris Harper, Music Director
About the Seraphim Chorus
The Seraphim Chorus is a non-profit, non-denominational community chorus founded in 2000. Its current director, Mr. Kris Harper, has built the 60 member chorus into the premier performing community chorus in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Lawrence Counties
It performs three major concerts each year, each concert performed once in Youngstown and in New Castle at revolving venues. In addition to its regular season, it has performed for class reunions, country clubs, church celebrations which need a large chorus to facilitate a specific activity, retirement communities, veteran support organizations, peace organizations and commercial groups.
Seraphim has developed a full repertoire of music appealing to a wide variety of audiences including music from Mendelssohn, Verdi and Rutter to music from Les Miz, Phantom and The Full Monty to Shrek and Muppet tunes to Simon and Garfunkle to the Beatles and the Association to Barbershop to an array of contemporary Italian music sung in Italian (especially popular in this area). One of its most poignant performances was a concert of African American music sung at St. Augustine’s Church, the first African American Episcopal Church in the United States.
Kris Harper, the Director, is a well known area talent and has served as an adjunct professor at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. He is the Director of Music at St. Patrick’s Church in Youngstown, as well as sharing music responsibilities at St. Dominic’s. He is the Program Director of SMARTS Sings! a component of Students Motivated by the Arts at the Adler Arts Center in the DeYor Center. In addition to being an outstanding organist, pianist, and soloist, his contemporary jazz combo has performed at numerous area venues.
